| | New genotyping service launched by Transnetyx in collaboration with AEM | |
| | | | AEM has partnered with Transnetyx to offer a cutting-edge genotyping service that promises precision and speed for researchers. After a month of testing with a dedicated research group, this new service is available from January 2025 to the broader scientific community at the university.
Transnetyx's genotyping service is renowned for its accuracy and efficiency, providing researchers with reliable results in a timely manner. For more detailed information about the service, please visit the Transnetyx website: www.transnetyx.com. Or contact Tansnetyx's sales manager Daniel Gercke: dgercke@transnetyx.com or +45 31 34 55 46.
One of the key benefits of using Transnetyx through AEM is free shipping offered for all samples. Additionally, Transnetyx is providing a limited number of free introductory samples to new users, making it an attractive option for researchers looking to streamline their genotyping processes.
For more information on how to use Transnetyx's service at AEM, please follow the link to AEM's webpage.

| | | | | All project plans are valid for two years after which they must be renewed
| | | | |
| In the new year, only project plans starting with a P/A-number corresponding to the new year and project plans with a P/A-number from the previous year are valid (for example, in 2025 only project plans with numbers in the formats P/A24-xxx and P/A25-xxx will be considered valid).
All project plans beginning with a P- or A-number corresponding to an earlier year will be invalid, which means that you cannot order animals or begin a new experiment. Therefore, if your project plan will or has expired, you need to submit a new project plan immediately if the experiments are to continue in the new year.
All project plans must be submitted for approval by AEM's veterinarians via e-mail: emed-projektplaner@sund.ku.dk. Questions regarding this should also be sent to the veterinarians by e-mail: emed-vet@sund.ku.dk and not to the animal caretakers.
Templates for project plans can be found in the list of our forms and requisitions. Please note that there are three different types of project plans. Please ensure you are using the right template.

| | | | | We are in the process implementing PyRAT in unit 10.2 and 16.4 including a new workflow for project plans, where the application and management of these are done within PyRAT. We are currently testing the project/breeding plan workflow in PyRAT with selected groups at 10.2 and 16.4. The testing is expected to be completed within a couple of months, and will be applied across the units thereafter, with support from the administrator team and project plan responsible. This means that you do not need to renew your already approved project/breeding plans from 2023 for now. You still need to update your 2023 plans with new procedures, participants etc. When we have more information and know more about the workflow, we will let you know. This is only applicable for project and breeding plans being used in 10.2 and 16.4.
If you start work on a new permit or start new projects not covered by your current project plans you will have to submit a new project plan using the template on the website.

| | | | | Skanderborg Apotek has discontinued the production of Hypnorm
| | | | |
| Current users have previously been informed that Hypnorm (fluanisol/fentanyl) is not available. This is because Skanderborg Apotek has discontinued production of Hypnorm. Because of this it is not possible to obtain Hypnorm for experiments in Denmark. AEM is currently working to find a solution to this issue, but whether or not we will be able to get Hypnorm produced elsewhere has not yet been settled. Because the supply chain of Hypnorm is highly uncertain, and regardless of the outcome of our efforts, we urge researchers to find alternative anaesthetic protocols for use in experiments in the future. For help with alternative anaesthetic protocols, please contact the AEM vets at emed-vet@sund.ku.dk.

| | | | | Risk of noice disturbances in building 10 at Panum
| |
| | | | Due to ongoing renovations in building 10 at Panum, there will be a risk of noise and vibrations from September 2024 through March 2026. AEM will coordinate with CAS and the contractor to concentrate noisy activities into limited periods as much as possible. However, it will not be possible to avoid noise completely during this time.
We appreciate your understanding and patience while these improvements are carried out. For more details, please visit: Renovation of buildings 10-4 and 10-5 at Panum.

| | | | | Tunnel handling at AEM
| |
| | | | In 2024, AEM conducted a pilot project on tunnel handling - a method for moving and managing animals using tunnels instead of lifting them by their tails - at the August Krogh facility. This pilot has been concluded, and tunnel handling is now fully implemented there. We gained valuable experience that will help with the rollout to other AEM facilities. The next phase of implementing tunnel handling across the department is underway. We have ordered 20,000 tunnels, which are expected to arrive by the end of 2024. Animal caretakers have been designated as tunnel handling ambassadors; they will assist in the implementation at their facilities, supported by facility managers and veterinarians. Tunnel handling will be implemented at all animal facilities with mice apart from 16.2. Once tunnel handling is established in the various facilities, animal caretakers will send workshop invitations to researchers. This will ensure that everyone working with mice at AEM has the opportunity to learn the method. If questions should arise, do not hesitate to contact AEM vets at emed-vet@sund.ku.dk. Information regarding tunnel handling can be found here: www.nc3rs.org.uk/3rs-resources/mouse-handling.

| | | | | Animal management software in unit 10.2 and 16.4
| |
| | | | The Department of Experimental Medicine has begun a pilot project to use an animal management system (AMS) in collaboration with the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR).
The AMS being tested is PyRAT animal facility software by Scionics Computer Innovation GmbH and will provide real-time overview of cages and animals inside the facilities as well as extended strain, and breeding management. Furthermore, the system will provide a platform for communication between users and the facility, support compliance and EU reporting and in time provide an overview of expenses and the possibility for users to enroll their strain names into a shared strain database.
You can find more information about PyRAT on the official website: Scionics Computer Innovation GmbH. The project group will collaborate with users in 10.2 and 16.4 and evaluate with caretakers and users throughout the pilot.
