| | Follow-up on the renovation of Unit 10.4
| |
| | | | Unfortunately there was an error in the headline. It is of course unit 10.4 and not 16.4 that will be refurbished. Sorry for the inconvenience.
As a follow-up to previously sent information about the planned renovation of 10.4, we would like to inform you that the renovation plan has now finally been approved by KU, and that AEM and CAS have had a first steering group meeting on the planning of the renovation on January 8, 2024.
The renovation work is planned from mid-2024 to the end of 2025, and it will be necessary to have the animals moved from 10.4 before the end of June 2024.
In the meantime, AEM has found an option for an internal relocation of the animals, which, however, means that they will lose their SPF status, but still will be able to be used at all sections. This internal solution may mean that not all mice will continue to be able to be bred without restrictions, and we will therefore encourage you to cryopreserve strains that are not immediately needed (maintenance breeding) and minimize breeding programs to what is absolutely necessary. Since we intend to move animals that still must have a SPF status to unit 10.2, the call to reduce breeding also applies to users of 10.2.
Researchers with activities on 10.4 and 10.2 will receive an invitation to an individual meeting in the coming weeks to discuss a suitable solution. Our goal is to meet everyone's needs as best as possible.
We apologize for the long wait from the first announcement until now, but hope you understand the complexity of planning the current project.
With kind regards,
Peter Bollen Professor, Head of department Department of Experimental Medicine
